From classic Relief Tonic to overlooked gems like North Italia, these restaurants and bars have happy hour menus that are sure to satisfy your need for a cold entree and save your wallet.

The converted two-story pharmacy has a laid back, laid-back atmosphere and is a great place to hang out with friends or watch a sports game. And this campus favorite offers a happy hour with a food that keeps students coming back: tater tots. The exchange lounge

The Exchange Saloon, a casual sports bar, is located four blocks east of University Yard, near the World Bank. It’s the closest thing to a traditional college town sports bar that an urban school like GW has to offer. The decor is a far cry from some of the modern, hip bars that are popping up in the city, but you won’t beat the prices for its selection of beers and spirits. The happy hour menu changes daily, but the food offerings include discounted items like burgers, buffalo wings, and nachos depending on which day of the week you choose to stop by. Every day of the week, happy hour includes $ 4 of rail drinks, $ 4 of house wines, and $ 5 of daily treats. But daily drink specials during happy hour range from $ 2 Budweiser and Bud Lites on Mondays to $ 4 Blue Moon Draft and $ 4 mojitos on Fridays.

On the menu, you will find $ 5 for glasses of wine and $ 16 for bottles, $ 5 for glasses of red sangria and $ 20 for a pitcher, $ 5 for beers and a $ 10 “Sicilian” margarita. Murphy’s Law at Carolina Forest hosts Broadway Karaoke Jake performed by DJ Joanna Ward on Wednesday and Saturday nights at Carolina Forest. The popularity of karaoke has skyrocketed in recent years mainly due to the American Idol series which launches its final season this week.

Randall Hill / For The Sun News

Three weeks after Martin Mullin’s death, little is known about what happened on the night of his death.

Mullin was the owner of the popular Murphy’s Law bar, which has three locations in the Myrtle Beach area.

The authorities have said very little about what happened on the night of May 14.

Myrtle Beach Police were called at around 9:30 p.m. to the Howard Avenue apartment with a reported burglary. Police determined that Mullin had entered the wrong apartment, where a fight broke out between him and the men who lived there. He received medical attention but did not survive.

Authorities have not indicated the cause of Mullin’s death. Mullin’s autopsy report won’t be available for some time, according to Horry County Coroner Robert Edge.

Police have not made any arrests in connection with Mullin’s death.

The police investigation is ongoing and more details will be released in the future, Cpl. Tom Vest, with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Mourning a key figure

The Myrtle Beach area continues to mourn the loss of a key figure in the local entertainment scene.

Brad Costigan met Mullin, whom friends called “Marty,” in the early 90s, while stationed at the now defunct Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.

Costigan got to know Mullin after becoming a regular at Murphy’s Law, which “was pretty much the best sports bar around,” he said.

Around this time, Costigan and Mullin bonded around their love of the sport and “just doing hell and having fun and not hurting anyone,” Costigan said.

“We were drinking and hopping in all the bars and seeing what games were going on,” he said.

“Him and I just clicked. We were both in the sport because he’s a die-hard Pittsburgh fan and I’m a die-hard New England fan so there was a lot of chatter but that’s what good friends do.

After Costigan returned to his home state of Maine, he kept in touch with Mullin and regularly visited his longtime friend in Myrtle Beach.

Costigan remembers Mullin as a generous father, whose wife and children “were the love of his life” and who had no problem footing the bar bill for his friends.

“Her # 1 priority was family,” Costigan said. “I love him like a brother.”

Christopher Ware, a bartender at Crepe Creation Cafe in The Market Common, said he met Mullin through mutual friends who all enjoyed spending time at Murphy’s Law. Mullin and his wife Suzanne were regulars at Ware.

Ware said he and Mulligan got along and were in agreement on business and politics.

“He’s been a bar owner for over 30 years and I’ve been running bars for almost 20 years. So we had a lot in common, ”Ware said.

He called Mullin a “brilliant” businessman and inspiration in his work.

“He had a very nice selection of spirits” and invited Ware to try new cocktails.

Mulligan was a “go-to man with a lot of advice, a little inspiration” who helped Ware solve some of the problems he faced as a bartender.

“He was an honorable man,” Ware said. “A standing guy.”

Nelk, the Youtube A collective known for their limit-pushing pranks and party animal hijinks – which scores over 20 million views per month – are set to launch their own brand of seltzer, which the guys built from scratch and which has been in preparation for a year.

“YouTube never paid us. We’re only here because you supported us by buying merch,” Nelk co-founder Kyle forgeard explains in a video document the creation of the product. “We get big deals, million dollar deals all the time. We’re not interested in short-term money, we’re here for the long-term game, this long-term game.

As a result, since the band’s videos frequently feature hard parties, this month they are launching a hard seltzer called Happy dad. The product is distinguished by the fact that it contains only 1 gram of sugar, 2 grams of carbohydrates, 100 calories and is full of electrolytes.

The company comes after Nelk brought in digital leaders and Strokes co-founders Jean Shahidi and Sam shahidi on board to help with their YouTube channel. John was chairman of their Complete shipment brand since late last year, and Sam will be the CEO of Happy Dad, which also marks a partnership with Cross-Global Alliance, a sales and marketing company specializing in the wine and spirits sector.

In a video released on Memorial Day, Nelk – which includes a rotating cast but is directed by Forgeard and Stephen ‘SteveWillDoIt’ Deleonardis (which catches 10 million views per month on his personal channel) – recounted the process of creating their independent brand, From Soup to Walnuts. This includes taste testing, logo and can design (the guys wanted a vintage feel and insisted on standard beer-sized cans), flavor selection (at launch options include cherry. wild, lemon-lime, watermelon, and pineapple), and made in a small town Wisconsin brewery.

The video (above) also features appearances from famous taste testers like Jordan Belfort and Kelly machine gun.

The initial Happy Dad race will feature 50,000 cases of product – each case containing two twelve packs – for a total of 1.2 million cans. Happy Dad’s distribution plan is to roll out state-by-state and country-by-country, the guys say, given that they own the product themselves and have to navigate local liquor laws. It will hit around 150 stores in California on June 14, after which it will also be available online, shipping to approximately 30 states.

Nelk, founded in 2010, currently has 6.6 million YouTube subscribers. Their controversial stunts earned the group the wrath of YouTube and the law. Youtube banned the channel for a week in March 2020 and temporarily suspended monetization after the guys held several massive, maskless rallies in Illinois State University and in Seaside Heights, NJ last fall. And Forgeard was arrested last month in Texas for would have impersonate a mall security guard, presumably as part of a prank.

United Airlines confirmed on Sunday that it still intends to reintroduce alcohol into its interior master cabin from June 1, despite calls from its flight attendants union to temporarily “eliminate” alcohol from all areas. the cabins. Southwest Airlines said on Friday it would delay the return of alcohol to its planes and American Airlines followed on Saturday, citing unruly passenger behavior for its decision to keep alcohol out of the main cabin.

Starting June 1, however, United will once again be offering economy class customers on most domestic flights over two hours a selection of beers and wines for purchase. United will also become the first airline to offer White Claw hard seltzer on board its planes.

A selection of beers including Stella Artois, Breckenridge Brewery Juice Drop Hazy IPA, and Kona Brewing Co. Big Wave Golden Ale will retail for $ 8, while most red, white, and sparkling wine options will cost $ 9. The premium wine options that were selected in consultation with Doug Frost, Master Sommelier will cost significantly more at $ 18 for a 375ml bottle.

The hard liqour, including vodka, rum and Jack Daniels whiskey, will remain unavailable for the time being and United have given no indication as to when they could be brought back.

Delta Air Lines introduced a limited range of alcoholic beverages for purchase on its domestic flights in April, while Alaska followed suit earlier this month. Allegiant and Spirit have been offering alcoholic beverages for purchase for several months.

But on Saturday, American Airlines decided to end its own plans to bring alcohol back to the main cabin because it said it “recognizes that alcohol can contribute to the atypical behavior of customers on board.”

US Vice President of Flight Services Brady Byrnes said the airline “owes our crew not to potentially escalate what can already be a new and stressful situation for our customers.” Alcohol sales will remain on hold until the federal face mask mandate expires – currently set for September 13.

Southwest Airlines has announced that it will not be bringing alcohol back on board its planes in June, as planned following a violent attack on one of its flight attendants who lost two teeth after having been hit by a passenger.

United flight attendants fear the return of alcohol will only further exacerbate incidents of unruly passenger behavior.

“Alcohol adds stress to our work environment and forces us to deal with these situations, which diverts our time from providing other passengers with excellent customer service management lately,” warned the United Affiliate of the AFA Flight Attendants Union.

“The best solution, in our opinion, given the current state of the industry, is to simply phase out alcohol completely on a temporary basis until the overall industry situation can be normalized. “

United’s decision to bring back alcohol will no doubt appeal to customers who feel the Southwest and Americans are punishing the majority for the actions of a few. Just make sure you drink in moderation. United flight attendants have been reminded to deny boarding to anyone who appears to be intoxicated and to refuse alcohol service to passengers who appear to be intoxicated.

Andrea Johnson / MDN Keith Johanneson, President of Johanneson’s Inc., speaks at the Marketplace Foods ‘Grand Reopening’ at 1620 South Broadway, where a month-long renovation project has just been completed.

Marketplace Foods at 1620 South Broadway celebrated the completion of its month-long renovation project with a “Grand reopening” ceremony Wednesday.

Keith Johanneson, owner and president of Johanneson’s Inc., said the newly renovated store now has a whole new format that will make it unique in North Dakota, increase efficiency and improve the shopping experience for customers.

He said the project, which wrapped up this week, included installing new vending machines, which customers seem to love, as well as an improved produce section and a new grocery store, expanded bakery, section for giant pets, a new selection of equipment from Germany in the meat department, new decor and new flooring and other additions that will increase efficiency.

The company has been doing business in Minot for 31 years and owns the four Marketplace Foods stores in Minot. It also has a location in Bemidji and owns four KJ’s Fresh Market items in Wisconsin and one KJ’s in Moose Lake, Minn. Johanneson told the Minot Daily News last fall that his business will be opening several Pet Supplies Plus in North Dakota.

Johanneson said at a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday that the company would be owned by employees by August. Employees will be offered 100% ownership of the shares.

Johanneson said the grand reopening will be celebrated throughout the week with demonstrations and gift certificates handed out.

He also gave back to the community by donating 2 1/2 tons of food to the pantry at Notre-Dame de la Grâce Catholic Church.

If you’ve found yourself drinking alcohol to celebrate coming out of quarantine, you’re not alone. Research has shown a huge increase in online alcohol sales over the past year as people still use subscription sites and delivery services to have beer, wine and spirits delivered directly. at their doorstep.

It’s a great way to re-kick off Memorial Day parties and in-person gatherings, while having your celebrity tequila, spirits, or bottle of wine delivered to you in a safe and convenient way.

Drizly, a liquor delivery service that boasts drop-off in 60 minutes or less, reports that sales have increased 437% since last summer, compared to what they might have expected to see during that time. The site, which allows people to order alcohol at more than 2,500 independent liquor stores and retailers across North America, says new users accounted for 27% of orders, compared to 15% normally.

The alcohol delivery application, Saucey, recorded similar figures, showing a 400% increase in sales from most states since the end of March. Saucey, which offers delivery in less than 30 minutes in some cities, says its average order size has also increased, with a 32% increase in the dollar amount people add to their carts.

It’s not just on-time deliveries that are growing in popularity; the online wine club, Winc reported a 111% increase in month-over-month orders from February to March of last year. The site also reported nearly 100,000 new members in March and April 2020 alone, or about 2,100 new registrations per day. See the full selection below and get 4 bottles for $ 29.95 on Winc.com.

The reasoning behind the numbers is simple: Although people continue to go out to bars and restaurants more frequently, delivery services have become a convenient alternative to in-store shopping. Meal delivery services, like Blue Apron, have seen a surge in activity, and Drizly says the alcoholic beverage industry is experiencing “unprecedented demand for selling liquor online” (i.e. say ordering alcohol online).

For Drizly, this translated to higher sales in its offerings, which include beer, wine, spirits, and mixers, as well as a selection of specialty drinks (think gluten-free beer, hard ciders and seltzer). More than Saucey, the app has also seen “gift orders” increase 15 times since last year. “Wine is the most sent gift, followed by spirits,” says Adam Mead, Growth Marketing Manager at Saucey. “Beers and other drinks are way down the list.” Because Saucey’s liquor delivery service offers 30-minute deliveries in some cities, it has also become an ideal way to deliver last-minute gifts, whether for a recent graduate or as a pick-me-up sent to a friend. Right now, you can also get $ 5 off your Memorial Day purchase at Saucey.com with code COMMEMORATIVE DRINKS. Valid 5 / 1-6 / 1.

For some alcohol delivery sites, the changing social climate has forced them to find new ways to attract customers as well. Among their limited edition offerings: ReserveBar is the only place online to find “The Bootleg Series by Heaven’s Door”. Named after Bob Dylan’s famous “Bootleg Series”, each edition features one of Dylan’s paintings on a handmade ceramic bottle, all wrapped in a leather case. The current series features a 26-year-old whiskey finished in Japanese Mizunara oak barrels, one of the rarest and most expensive types of oak in the world.

ReserveBar also offers an impressive selection of unique and hard-to-find spirits, such as Metallica BLACKENED Whiskey, which uses the rock band’s music to ‘sonically enhance’ the flavor of an American whiskey, as well as favorites like TINCUP Rye, a pure rye whiskey cut-proof with Rocky Mountain water and named after the Tin Cup, a mining town founded in 1879 in the western end of Colorado.

And then there is Wine.com, a favorite site for wine lovers thanks to its vast selection of rare and award-winning wines from around the world. They had tapped into their post-40s celebrity, offering live wine tastings with everyone from Jon Bon Jovi to John Legend (see the full program here). Customers can buy a bottle (or two) of wine online and sign up for a free wine tasting led by their favorite celebrity and a wine expert from the site.

One more thing: Whether you’re enjoying your booze again at home or at the bar, make sure you’re enjoying a hangover free morning after. We love The Plug, a delicious herbal ‘shot’ you drink before bed to help ease your liver (and body) after a night of drinking. The company claims its formula is made from 13 all-natural plants, fruits and flowers, which are then combined with the “purest form of rock water” for an easy-to-sip drink. There’s no caffeine or added sugar, so it won’t keep you awake at night, and unlike some pills or “hangover drinks”, it won’t give you jitters either.

The Plug has been our secret weapon for waking up with a clear mind and no hangovers, and is still stored in our pantry (we love it fresh too). Try a six pack for $ 30 here. The company claims to have sold nearly a million bottles to date, with customers reporting a 99% success rate.

Luxury beachside hot dogs can now be purchased in front of Skaha Lake.

Food truck owners Wienery Tahnee Adams and Campbell Kearns opened a restaurant with three patios, two of which overlook Skaha Lake at the Barefoot Resort.

The famous hot dog food truck has been in business in the South Okanagan wineries for three years, but the husband and wife duo wanted a permanent place to be theirs.

“We will be focusing on our world famous hot dogs as well as our herbal market. As a chef, I really wanted to explore and elevate vegetable based foods. There will also be sea bass, burgers, sausage and apples, ”Kearns said.

With three children of their own, there is also a children’s menu.

The Barefoot Restaurant is a large facility across the street from the beach, with three patios, including a rooftop patio which is currently under renovation. With the two patios open, they can safely accommodate large numbers of people and comply with COVID-19 security protocols.

The Hound Dog is their number one hot dog with peanut butter, bacon, pickles and crispy onions.

“It has the perfect balance of salty which makes it simply delicious,” he said.

The second most popular dog is the Big Dog Deluxe, a classic of fried onions, bacon and cheese.

The Carrot dog is also climbing the charts in popularity. These are grilled marinated carrots, hot peppers, pickled onions and spicy creamy almond goat mayonnaise.

Okanagan Ice Pops will provide the gourmet popsicles for dessert. Adams also works with local chocolatiers.

“We’ve made dessert dogs in the past, so we’re going to incorporate that as well; like the Banana Nutella Dessert Dogs.

The Wienery will also have a small market, offering take-out options like salads, bread, local jams and cold cuts. They plan to get a liqueur license in July and are excited to offer a selection of local wines, craft beers and hand-picked ciders.
